When a craving for a Big Mac hits, you know exactly what you’re in for; savoury beef, tangy pickles, cheese, crisp lettuce, and that unmistakable sauce. My Big Mac Salad takes all of those iconic flavours and layers them into a lighter, low-carb bowl that feels just as satisfying as the fast food classic. It’s quick to make, fun to eat, and the kind of dinner you’ll come back to again and again. With fresh veggies, seasoned beef, and a healthier version of the famous mac sauce, this salad proves you can have comfort food and still keep things simple and balanced.

What I love most about this big mac salad recipe is how it gives you everything you crave from a burger, but in a lighter, fresher way. On nights when I’m craving comfort food but don’t want something heavy, I reach for meals like this that still feel indulgent but keep things simpler. My Skillet Lasagna works the same magic with noodles, sauce, and cheese all in one pan. This salad has the same balance of comfort and ease, but with a fun twist similar to my Homemade Hamburger Helper.

✔️ How To Make Big Mac Salad
To start, place a medium skillet over medium heat and drizzle in the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the ground beef and break it up with a spoon. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it begins to brown. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and no pink remains. Remove from the heat and set aside.
Next, make the mac sauce. In a small bowl, combine the Greek yogurt (or mayo), sweet pickle relish, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, vinegar, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir well until smooth and creamy, then taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
Now it’s time to build the salad. Start with a base of shredded romaine on a large platter or in individual bowls. Top with the seasoned ground beef, chopped pickles, onion, cheddar, and tomatoes. Drizzle generously with the mac sauce and finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for that signature Big Mac touch.
Give everything a quick toss before serving and enjoy right away while the beef is still warm. See the recipe in action here.
🗒️ Variations
Pickle lover’s edition: double up on the dill pickles or add different varieties of pickles.
Make it spicy: add diced jalapeños to the salad if you want a little kick.
🗒️ Substitutions
Meat sub: use ground turkey for a lighter option, or a plant-based ground beef alternative.
Dairy-free: swap out the cheddar for your favourite dairy-free shredded cheese and use vegan mayo instead of the Greek yogurt.

🍴 Leftovers? Lucky you.
If you happen to have leftover Big Mac Salad, store the components separately for best results. Keep the cooked beef and mac sauce in airtight containers in the fridge for up to 4 days.

I’m assuming that the “green” yogurt is actually supposed to be “greek” yogurt? LOL 😊
Yes, PLEASE do not add green yogurt LOL!
Shockingly delicious- just the thing for when you’re craving a burger but don’t let the calories.
Hi Renee! Right? It really is so shockingly delicious! Thank you for such a wonderful review, and I am very happy you enjoyed the salad!
Probably a stupid question. But can I eat this cold the next day for lunch or does the chop meat need to be warm?
omg – such a fun whimsical salad! I haven’t had a Big Mac in eons and this salad captured the nostalgic tastes! Made with ground chicken – enjoyed but know beef would have taken it over the top!
Hey Sammy, I know this defeats the purpose of this recipe, but for the kids could I add Tater tots?😝
Oh you sure can, and that would be so, so delicious!
My daughter has a big love for McDonald’s. So when I saw this I put it on our dinner rotation for her to cook! The whole family loved it 😍.
We loved this recipe! My husband was even happy about a salad for supper lol. The sauce was delish. Will for sure make it again!
This was delicious!! I doubled the dressing so I can make the salad again tomorrow. Another Bonus is that my husband loved it.
Hi Anne! This is so awesome! So happy you enjoyed it.
Just like a Big Mac, but in a salad. Delicous!
This was the perfect Big Mac craving fix without the guilt!
What’s the red spice you add in the mac sauce in the video?
I haven’t made this yet but can’t wait to try the recipe
Looks good. We are eating lower cal and carbs…..this fits our goal
This is definitely going into our regular rotation!
This was DELICIOUS! I am so glad I doubled it so that my husband and I could have leftovers for lunch. It was so easy to make and flavorful. I did add a little more ketchup to the sauce. I thought at first it was too much sauce, but no, that stuff is so tasty! I will definitely make this again for my family.
Great easy dinner!
This is so fun and good.. I get so tired of salads but I look forward to eating this. Extra tip if you like a little more crunch, add Pik Nik shoestring potatoes on top for that “French fry” feel 🙂
