Are you looking for a simple, zesty and bright lemon Vinaigrette? Make this just once, and you’ll never buy store bought salad dressing again!
My dad has been making this vinaigrette for years! In fact, we named it the: Barone House Salad Dressing because we rarely switch it up. It’s zesty, bright, flavourful and will blow any store bought version out of the water. Yes it adds a delicious flavour to greens, but it also works as a chicken, shrimp or vegetable marinade.

What is vinaigrette?
Vinaigrette is a combination of oil (typically olive oil) and an acid such as vinegar or lemon juice. The mixture can be enhanced with salt, garlic and other spices. Vinaigrette is most commonly used to dress salads, but also works as a marinade.
What is the different between a vinaigrette and a dressing?
Dressings are typically thicker and creamier with the additional of mayonnaise, mustard or honey. Vinaigrettes typically stick to oil, vinegar, and spices.

Homemade Vinaigrette
Ingredients
- 1 cup olive oil, extra virgin
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp dry mustard
- 1/2 tsp onion salt
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/8 tsp dried thyme
Instructions
- In a liquid measuring cup or bowl, combine all of the ingredients.
- Whisk until the ingredients are well combined.
- Use immediately, or cover and refrigerate for future use. Sammy's notes: homemade vinaigrette keeps well for about 7 days in the fridge. If your vinaigrette solidifies in the fridge, let come to room temperature before serving. This is totally normal, real olive oil does that!
- Enjoy!

My new go to. Love the addition of dry mustard – it really adds a little extra flavor.
This looks so good! Quick question- I am not a fan of mustard. If I omit the dry mustard, will it still taste good, or do you really need that element? Thanks!
It will still taste delicious!
