Holiday season is right around the corner and we need all the appetizer ideas we can get! If you are looking for some simple, delicious and crowd-pleasing appetizers, you have come to the right place! These Crispy Salami Bites are the perfect holiday party appetizer! Each bite is loaded with feta, olives, cherry tomatoes, capers and fresh basil, making it the perfect loaded little bite!

The best part about this easy appetizer is that you can customize it however you’d like! These are more of a greek inspired filling, but I have kept them really simple before, using cherry tomatoes, bocconcini and fresh basil, and that version is equally as delicious! Before you dive into the recipe below, be sure to read my tips before getting started!

Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the ingredients you’ll need to make my Crispy Salami Bites.
For the exact detailed measurements and ingredients, scroll to the bottom of this page to review my recipe card.

  • Salami
  • Kalamata olives
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Capers (rinsed)
  • Fresh basil
  • Feta or bocconcini
  • Olive oil

My tips before getting started

  • I recommend rinsing the capers before adding them to the mix to remove some of the salt. The salami, feta and olives have a lot of salt already so rinsing them will remove some salt, while still giving you some delicious texture.
  • If you are trying to scale back on the salt all together, you can opt for a bocconcini cheese rather than feta! I have done this a few times and its delicious.
  • Some other ingredients to consider adding are: artichokes, roasted red peppers, or bocconcini. Alternatively, you can buy an antipasto jar that comes with a variety of different veggies that you can scoop right into your salami bites, which makes this recipe come together even quicker!

Crispy Salami Bites

These Crispy Salami Bites are the definition of: the perfect bite! The salami is baked in the oven to create a crispy cup and then packed with feta, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, and capers. These are such a crowd pleaser, and the best part is, you can make them ahead of time before your guests arrive!
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 10 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 20-25 pieces salami
  • 1/3 cup feta or bocconcini, crumbled
  • 1/3 cup cherry tomatoes, chopped fine
  • 1/3 cup kalamata olives, chopped fine
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped fine
  • 1 tbsp capers, rinsed, optional
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  • Begin by setting your oven to 400 °F.
  • To a muffin tin add each piece of salami, pressing down slightly to create a cup.
*Tip: you can also use a shot glass to help shape a cup in your muffin tin. Watch the full recipe video linked above.
  • Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the salami crisps and can hold shape.
Once the salami is done, remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
  • In a medium sized bowl combine the feta, olives, tomatoes, capers and olive oil.
Tip: rinse the capers to remove some of the salt.
  • Scoop mixture into salami bites, top with fresh basil and enjoy!

Sammy! This was so good!! Tried it with my family and it was a big hit. Canโ€™t wait to make it for parties this holiday season!

  3. How far in advance can you make these? Can you bake the salami the night before and put the mixture in the day of?

    1. Hi Melissa! I haven’t made the salami the night before so I don’t know for sure. Usually I make the salami in the morning, make the mixture and refrigerate it until I want to stuff the salami with it. I know the salami can be made a few hours in advance for sure. Hope this helps.

freaking CHEFS KISS! I made it for Thanksgiving and now it has been requested as a Christmas appetizer, too!! Heads up, using mini muffin pan works better (i tried a regular sized cupcake pan first and everything went wrong lol)

    1. Hi Ashley! Thank you for the review and I am so glad everyone enjoyed it enough to request it for Christmas! Love it. xo, Sammy

can i ask what brand of salami you used? i used the mastro genoa salami and the cups ended up too small to fit anything in them!

    1. Hi Victoria, I also used the mastro. They do end up pretty small, so it’s a bit time consuming adding the ingredients to each. If you want, try using a large muffin tin next time, or double up on the salami pieces to hold their shape better which will also result in a bigger piece! Let me know if you give it a go.
