This Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry recipe is a crave-worthy, quick and a delicious weeknight meal. Packed with crispy beef, tender broccoli then coated in a velvety savoury garlic sauce. While more commonly served with rice, we love to switch it up by adding ramen or udon noods.

😍 Why You’ll Love This Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry Recipe

Quick: ready in less than 20 minutes, this is the perfect recipe when you need a quick (but delicious) dinner.
Budget-friendly: make this one with affordable cuts of beef; just be sure to slice it thin.
Flavourful: with a few pantry staples this recipe tastes like it took a lot longer than it does to make.
One-pan: I love this recipe because I can whip it up using one large frying pan or wok.

A bowl of stir-fried noodles with vegetables is on a kitchen counter, echoing the allure of a beef and broccoli stir fry. Chopsticks rest on the bowl. Behind, there is a beige kettle, spice jars, a striped towel, and a bottle of Kikkoman soy sauce. Dry herbs are displayed in a white vase.

🥦 Ingredients You’ll Need To Make Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

Flank steak: top sirloin and top round steak will also work.
Broccoli: you can swap with another vegetable, such as zucchini.
Ramen: if you prefer a different type of noodle, go for it.
Canola oil:
which is used to fry the beef.
Sesame oil:
adds a subtle nuttiness.
Rice wine vinegar:
this will add a nice tang and acidity.
Soy sauce:
this might be the most important ingredient which adds flavour and substance.
Beef broth:
gives this dish substance to form a thicker sauce.
Oyster sauce:
is used to add a briny flavour. Additionally it adds a bit of saltiness.
Sriracha
: if you don’t like spice, don’t add it.
Honey:
a touch of sweetness helps to balance out the salt.
Cornstarch
: is used as a thickening agent.
Garlic:
adds flavour and compliments the ginger.
Ginger
: adds a pungent and subtly spicy kick to the recipe.

☑️ How To Make Beef and Broccoli Ramen

  1. Firstly, start by cooking your ramen.
  2. Next, sear the beef.
  3. Once removed, steam the broccoli.
  4. Then, return everything to the pan and pour over the sauce.
  5. Finally, gently mix together and allow the sauce to thicken.
Chopsticks lift saucy noodles with tender beef and crisp broccoli from a bowl, perfectly embodying a classic Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry. In the background, a bottle of hot sauce, a jar, and garlic bulbs add flavor to the kitchen countertop scene by the window.

🤝 Tips To Achieve The Ultimate Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

  • Freeze your steak for 20-30 minutes which will make it easier to slice into thin pieces.
  • Use a sharp knife and cut the meat against the grain.
  • Ensure the pan is very hot before adding the beef; this will help you achieve a nice crust on the outside.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan. Work in batches if you need to prevent the beef from steaming rather than frying.

🗒️ Variations

Extra protein: finish with a hard boiled egg.
Garnish options: you can garnish with a variety of ingredients such as peanuts, green onions or chili crunch.

🗒 Substitutions

Protein variation: swap the beef with chicken, shrimp or tofu.
Noodle variation: switch it up with udon, soba or rice noodles.

🤔 FAQ’s

Can I substitute the noodles for something else?

Absolutely! Udon, soba, vermicelli or egg noodles.

Can I use something besides beef in this recipe?

You sure can! In fact, I often swap the beef for chicken.

How do I thinly slice the beef?

I recommend freezing the beef for 20-30 minutes as it will help you achieve thin slices. Additionally, you’ll want to slice the beef against the grain.

Can I use other veggies to replace the broccoli?

Of course! Zucchini is a great alternative.

Can I freeze the leftovers?

While you can freeze the cooked beef and broccoli, I don’t recommend freezing the ramen or any noodles as they become mushy.

Can I prepare this recipe in advance?

I love meal prepping as much as I can, however it’s best to prepare this one when you are ready to eat as the noodles absorb into the sauce quickly. As a result, if you prepare it too early, it can become dry.

A bowl of beef and broccoli stir fry with noodles is on a kitchen counter. Chopsticks hold a piece of broccoli and meat above the bowl. A window, a jar, and a vase with dried flowers are in the background.

🍴 Leftovers? Lucky you.

Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. To reheat simply pan fry or microwave. I also recommend adding a splash of stock to thin out the sauce.

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Garnish:

  • sesame seeds, optional
  • green onions, optional
  • peanuts, optional

Instructions

  • Begin by cooking your ramen or noodle of choice.
Cook according to package instructions but take it off the heat 2 minutes before it's finished cooking, as it will continue cooking when you add it to the pan.
Strain and set aside until ready to use.
  • Prepare the steak by slicing it into thin, bite sized pieces and add it to a medium sized bowl.
(see my tips and faq's above to achieve perfectly sliced beef)
Add the sesame oil and worcestershire to the beef and gently mix to combine.
Let rest while you prepare everything else.
  • Wash and chop your broccoli into bite sized pieces and set aside until ready to use.
  • To a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients (cornstarch last) and whisk until no clumps remain.
  • To a large frying pan set to medium/high heat, add a splash of canola oil or peanut oil and once hot, add the beef.
  • Fry the beef for 2-3 minutes, just until browned and cooked to your liking.
  • Remove the beef from the pan and set aside momentarily, and reduce the heat to medium.
  • Add the broccoli and water, cover with a lid and allow the broccoli to steam for 2-3 minutes, or until cooked to your preferance.
  • Next, reduce the heat to low/medium, return the beef to the pan, followed by the ramen and pour over the sauce.
  • Bring to a light simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
Gently toss until everything is mixed together and coated evenly.
Taste here to see if you need to adjust the seasoning.
(This will depend if you used a salted beef broth and low sodium soy sauce)
  • Remove from the heat, garnish with sesame seeds, green onions and peanuts.
