If you are looking for a quick and easy dinner idea you need to make my healthier Hot Honey Crispy Chicken Sandwich, which is covered in my hot honey sauce that takes this sandwich to the next level.

I love a good fried chicken sandwich but sometimes it’s nice to cook these in the air-fryer; it’s quicker, the clean-up is fast and its a healthier option. But, if you prefer fried, you can definitely do that with this recipe too! The best thing about this recipe is the hot honey sauce which honestly could not be any easier! Grab your favourite hot sauce and some honey, heat it up on the stove in a small saucepan for just a minute or two and pour it over your sandwich just before serving.

A Few Tips:

What toppings should I use?
You can’t go wrong with any of your favourite burger/sandwich toppings on this sandwich. Because the sauce is so flavourful (and a bit messy) I like to keep it fresh and simple with just a good handful off finely shredded romaine lettuce.

I also like to cover the bun with a homemade garlic mayo which is just mayonnaise and 1 or 2 cloves of minced garlic (depending how garlicky you like it).

Can I substitute the ground chicken with another ground meat?
Yes, you can use ground turkey for this recipe as well. I have tried both ways and since the turkey is leaner I find it doesn’t taste as good (personal preference) but if you are someone who doesn’t eat chicken you can definitely make this substitution!

What additional toppings can I add to the sandwich?
-Tomatoes
-Cucumbers
-Pickles
-Red onion
-Cheese (cheddar or havarti)

Can I do these in the oven if I don’t have an air-fryer?
You bet! Set your oven to 400 degrees and bake these for 15-20 minutes, or until your patties reach 165 degrees.

You can also fry these on your stove in vegetable or canola oil.

Lastly, don’t forget to give your buns a quick toast before assembling; it helps to keep the shape of the sandwich.

Wasnโ€™t sure how this was all going to come togetherโ€ฆ But this was absolutely delicious! Family loved this one. 5 for 5!

  2. How many eggs go into the breading process? I see one for the burger mixture, but not the quantity for the breading. Thanks!

    1. Hi Anne, I just add the eggs directly to the meat mixture and don’t dip into any eggs. Hopefully this helps.
