As much as I love a viral recipe, I don’t often make them. But when I saw these tarts go viral on TikTok by Lily G Bakes I knew I had to give them a go. I’m so glad I finally put my own spin on these, in fact, they are one of the easiest appetizers I’ve ever made. They’re the perfect combination of buttery, flaky, salty and creamy. The varieties are endless when it comes to these: feel free to top with sweet fruit or savoury meats and cheeses. However you choose to make these, I’m certain you’ll come back to this technique time and time again.

What are Puff Pastry Tarts?

Typically made with butter, flour, water and salt, then rolled out into dough sheets. Once baked, the texture is light, flaky and delicious.

Puff Pastry Tarts with Brie & Prosciutto

By Sammy Montgoms
Brie & Prosciutto Puff Pastry Tarts are the ultimate easy appetizer. Made with creamy brie, crispy prosciutto, and garnished with toasted walnuts.
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 15 minutes
Resting Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 12 pieces

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets pre-made puff pastry, defrosted, 12-15 tarts total
  • wheels of brie, I used the 125 gram wheels, (187 grams total) sliced into generous bite sized pieces
  • 12-15 pieces prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped fine
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts, lightly toasted
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • tsp olive oil
  • balsamic glaze, optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 °F and line a large sheet pan with parchment paper.
  • Lay out the sheets of puff pastry and cut into 12-15 rectangles.
  • Drizzle a small amount of olive oil (about a ⅛ of a tsp) on the parchment paper.
Top with a sprinkle of rosemary, 1 or 2 pieces of brie, a piece of prosciutto, then layer on one of the rectangle pieces of puff pastry over top.
    Repeat.
  • Using the prongs of a fork, crimp the edges to adhere to the parchment paper to ensure everything is locked in tightly.
  • Brush each tart with egg wash and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden and slightly bubbly.
  • Let the tarts cool on the pan for 5 minutes before flipping over.
After 5 minutes, gently flip and let cool for another minute.
  • In the meantime, prepare the walnut topping.
  • To a small saucepan, lightly toast the chopped walnuts for 1-2 minutes on medium heat, stirring consistency to ensure they don't burn.
  • Remove from heat and add the honey and gently mix into the walnuts.
  • Top each tart with the walnut topping.
  • Finish with a balsamic glaze.
  • Enjoy!

  1. Hi Sammy! These look delicious! Can I use beef bresaola? Part of our family canโ€™t eat pork. Any other suggestions would be helpful!

  2. Could you please tell me what brand of dairy free Brie you used in the video! Canโ€™t wait to make this!
    Thank you

    1. You can make them an hour or two in advance and then re-heat them! Though, I would say they taste best straight from the oven.

  3. 5 stars
These were so easy to make and were delicious. We varied our cheeses, added carmelized onions and toppings. Definitely a keeper! Thank you for sharing.
