Lemon & Boursin Orzo Bake is another version of my viral Spinach & Sun-dried Tomato Orzo Bake. You all seemed to really enjoy that recipe, which means, you’ll probably love this one too. It’s made using only 6 ingredients and can be whipped together in one baking dish, making this recipe the perfect easy and delicious weekday dinner option. This recipe is great on the side of grilled chicken or shrimp but feel free to eat it all on its own!

Lemon & Boursin Orzo at a glance

Taste: the overall taste is creamy, rich, zesty and incredibly comforting.
Time: every oven will cook this dish at different times so don’t panic if it’s not cooked at the 30 minute mark; just keep cooking it until the orzo is done. Some ovens may take up to 55 minutes.
Effort: very minimal effort for this one! You literally just throw everything into a large baking dish, cover it, and throw it in the oven, so this one could not be any easier.
Difficulty: anybody can make this recipe! anyone! I promise! This is also a really great recipe if you have kids who are getting started in the kitchen and they need a few easy recipes to get their feet wet, and start building confidence in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Here is a quick overview of the ingredients you’ll need to make my one pan Lemon & Boursin Orzo Bake. For the exact detailed measurements and ingredients, scroll to the bottom of this page to review my recipe card.

  • Orzo- if you can’t find orzo, you can use any type of small pasta or rice.

  • Chicken or veggie stock
  • Fresh parsely- feel free to use you favourite herbs; basil also works really nicely.
  • Parmesan cheese- use whatever cheese you have on hand! Some other great options are white cheddar, or havarti.
  • Garlic
  • Lemon

Substitutions & FAQ’s

What if the orzo is not cooked after 30 minutes?
Not to worry! Just keep cooking it until the orzo is fully cooked! Every oven will cook this differently so it can take up to 50 or 55 minutes!
Can I substitute the parmesan for another cheese?

Yes! Some other cheeses that work great are: white cheddar or havarti.
What protein can I add to this recipe?

Some delicious protein options that would go really well in this recipe are: chicken, tofu or shrimp!

Storing & reheating

If you have leftovers be sure to keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

To reheat your Lemon & Boursin Orzo Bake, simply microwave for 30-45 seconds or add it to a small pan with a splash of olive oil and re-heat on the stove for 4-5 minutes, or until heated throughout.

Does this recipe freeze well?
I don’t recommend freezing this recipe as the cheese doesn’t freeze well.

Lemon & Boursin Orzo Bake

This is my easy Lemon and Boursin Orzo Bake that can be made all in one baking dish! It is loaded with creamy boursin cheese, orzo, and fresh lemon, making this the perfect easy and delicious weeknight meal that can be served on its own, or on the side of grilled chicken or shrimp.
Prep: 5 minutes
Cook: 35 minutes
Servings: 4 people

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups orzo, uncooked
  • cup chicken stock, salted
  • 1 boursin cheese, 150 grams
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated fine
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped fine
  • 1 lemon, half sliced into 5 pieces, and the other half juiced.
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 °F.
  • To a medium sized baking dish, add your boursin to the middle.
  • Add your uncooked orzo around the boursin, and then pour in your chicken stock.
  • Zest at least 1 tsp of lemon before slicing it in half.
Slice the one half into 5 even slices and then add them to the orzo bake, and keep the other half to add once it's finished cooking.
  • Add your garlic along with a pinch of salt and pepper to the orzo bake, cover with foil and let bake in the oven for 35-55 minutes.
*Oven times will vary but once the orzo is cooked, and the liquid is absorbed you can remove it from the oven.
  • Once its finished cooking, remove lemon slices, add your lemon zest, juice from the remaining half of your lemon, fresh parsley, and parmesan cheese. Mix to combine.
  • Serve right away as is, or along side your favourite protein.

Amazing! Made this tonight and paired with chicken. Very rich and creamy, perfect for a cold night. Super easy to toss together. I baked it covered for 30 minutes. Mixed in the parmesan cheese and parsley then placed it back in the oven, uncovered, for ten minutes. Came out perfect.

Made this last night and it was absolute perfection! I ended up initially baking it for 35 minutes covered, then checked it and baked for an additional 10. It was sooo delicious and well-balanced! I substituted basil for the parsley because that’s what I had on hand, and it was a fantastic herb to go along. Had the leftovers for lunch today (heated up in a skillet with olive oil for 5ish minutes) and it was even better. Sammy, thank you for this new staple recipe!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Ashley! I always eat this one for leftovers too! And I do the same thing in the pot with a little olive oil! Nice touch. Thanks for trying my recipe, and an even bigger thank you for a review. I appreciate it so much.

My husband and I decided to make this recipe on a whim because it sounded good. Our Boursin was already open, so it was a little short and we had broth in the house instead of stock. This recipe still came out SO delicious, hubby has asked me to make it again and the night isnโ€™t even over. I have zero culinary skill, never learned how to cook, and I was still able to pull this off with minimal effort. Itโ€™s easy, delicious, and perfect for anyone. 10/10!

Delicious and super easy. Loved it! One question, can I add in chicken to the recipe? If so, should it be cooked or raw?

    1. If you want to add chicken, I recommend pan frying/cooking the chicken first, then adding your orzo and boursin and cooking as per directions until the orzo is finished and the chicken is done cooking. Hope this helps.

I donโ€™t usually leave reviews, but this recipe is amazing! Itโ€™s pretty low effort and the dish is delicious. I mixed mine up with some salmon and peas and had an easy tasty lunch โ˜บ๏ธ

This was so fantastic and easy. When I make something new, I ask my husband “is this a ‘make it again’ dish?” Before I completed my question, he started shaking his head YES. Was so delicious. Making it again this weekend but for a dinner party. Thx for another delicious recipe!

Absolutely my new favourite! Creamy, lemony, garlicky, what more is there? I have yet to find gluten free orzo and had to sub fusilli so had to play with the amount of broth but I got lucky on the first try. It’s on the menu rotation for sure ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Alia, so happy you enjoyed this recipe! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review!

I absolutely LOVE this. I cooked it the 35 minutes covered but it was not al dente. Next time Iโ€™m going to just cook at 30 minutes. Tonight Iโ€™m making your Cacio e pepe w/hot Italian sausage and Caesar salad with Johnny Dโ€™s dressing. Now thatโ€™s a โ€œhappy mealโ€ ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜‹
