Easy Apple Crisp

This easy Apple Crisp recipe is my go-to when I want something low-effort but high-reward. It's warm, gooey, buttery, and spiced just right.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 6 honey crisp apples peeled & chopped
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp all-spice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Crumble Topping

  • cups old fashioned oats quick oats can be used, but may result in a slightly different texture
  • 3/4 cup butter cold, chopped into very small pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp all-spice
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Optional

  • 1/3 cup caramel sauce layered between the apples and the crumble
  • vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 375 °F and grease an 8x8-inch baking dish with butter or neutral cooking oil.
  • Begin by preparing the apples: peel and chop then add to a medium sized mixing bowl.
    Add all of the apple filling ingredients to the apples and gently mix to combine.
  • To your prepared baking dish, pour in the apple filling mixture then drizzle with 1/3 cup - 1/2 cup of caramel sauce.
    Set aside while you prepare your crumble topping.
  • To a separate medium sized mixing bowl add all of your crumble topping ingredients.
  • Squeeze and work the cold butter into the oat mixture until it is completely incorporated and has a chunky crumb like texture.
  • Pour the crumble topping overtop the apple filling and using your hands spread evenly and gently pat into the apple mixture.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30-35 minutes or until you can see that the apples are beginning to bubble.
    Remove the aluminum foil and bake for another 10 minutes - or until the top begins to brown.
  • Let cool for 5 minutes and serve with vanilla ice cream if desired.
